Intro

Historical routes in the ski region of Samnaun Those who complete the marked smugglers’ routes with the aid of the mySamnaun app can look forward to stunning viewpoints and a chance to win something in the prize draw.

In times past, these routes were used to transport various bootleg goods, such as tobacco, coffee or even nylon stockings, across the Swiss-Austrian border. One such route was to be found between Ischgl and Samnaun. In memory of those wild days, the modern ski region of Samnaun boasts three smugglers’ routes for the adventurous, which can be traversed on skis. Those interested can use the mySamnaun app to choose from the difficulty levels gold, silver and bronze. Each route includes several checkpoints, which must be completed in the correct order, and successful smugglers are entered into a prize draw. Since it doesn’t matter how long it takes to complete the route, there is no reason you cannot stop along the way for a relaxing lunch or take a break every so often to drink in the wonderful panorama.

The app is available free of change for both iOS and Android devices, and its tracking function also works offline. Winners will be informed via push notification and can collect their prizes at the Samnaun cable car valley station. At the end of the season, all those who have completed one of the smugglers’ routes will be entered into a top prize draw.
