Alpine cattle descent of Semsales
Overview
Intro
The alpine cattle descent is the best-known of all traditional mountain festivities. After more than four months of grazing in alpine pastures, cows make their way down to the plain.
The Désalpe of Semsales takes place on the first weekend of October. It is a lively and authentic custom, rich in traditions and deeply rooted in the life of the entire region.Farmers, artisans, villagers, city dwellers, and visitors from Switzerland and beyond feel during this autumn period the desire to share and participate together in this celebration of the mountains and the armaillis. On this occasion, the entire village comes alive to welcome them: Alpine horns, bell ringers, a craft market, and local food stalls animate the main street of the village.
