Learning to See: On the Architecture of Rudolf Olgiati
Overview
Intro
Lecture by Daniel A. Walser "Learning to See: On the Architecture of Rudolf Olgiati." Featuring film clips from "Rudolf Olgiati, Architect."
Rudolf Olgiati (1910–1995), an architect from Flims, did more than simply develop his own distinctive architectural language. Like his great role model, Le Corbusier, Olgiati repeatedly emphasized that people do not look at things as they really are. Olgiati denounced the thoughtless repetition of perspectives regarding landscape, architecture, light, and their visual impact. In his view, people were constantly drawing the wrong conclusions, thereby preventing a genuine connection to the landscape and culture of Graubünden. Through his architecture, Olgiati seeks to take a different path and to connect the existing environment with modern architecture.
