The Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola presents an experiment: bringing the fairy tale “Vogel” (1933) into public space in the form of community theatre. Hesse wrote “Vogel” for his wife Ninon, as a tribute to the “Monday village”, the affectionate name he gave to Montagnola. At the heart of the story is a mysterious bird that no one has ever truly seen, yet which sparks curiosity, myths, and tensions among the village inhabitants. Local residents shape this legendary tale by transforming Piazza Brocchi, the Torre Camuzzi, and hidden corners of the village into a vivid narrative landscape. Together, they breathe new life into a story nearly one hundred years old, creating a collective narration that speaks to the present, between memory and change. Themes such as community and alienation, preservation and transformation, tradition and renewal run through the performance. This form of “Teatro diffuso” has no stage: the audience moves on foot from one location to another, experiencing firsthand an event for all ages that engages and brings people together.

All performance locations are wheelchair accessible and connected by short walking routes.

Free admission. Registration compulsory on the website of the Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola.
