Sconfinare Festival 2026

Not all words carry the same weight. Some pass through us, wear themselves out, get lost in the flow of daily conversation. Others, however, open up possibilities: they shape a thought, interrupt a habit, change the way we look at the world. But what makes a word a necessary word? And how important is the silence that precedes it, welcomes it, or resists it, for it to become so? The seventh edition of the Sconfinare Festival arises from these questions and projects them onto a broader horizon: the point where the word meets silence. Every word carries with it an expectation, a choice, a renunciation, a responsibility. And every silence, in turn, can preserve listening, modesty, thought—but also mark exclusion, censorship, repression. Between speaking and remaining silent, an essential space in individual and collective life opens up: the place where relationships, memory, and the very possibility of understanding one another take shape. In an age where language is everywhere—in the media, in politics, in private conversations, on the screens that accompany our every gesture—it becomes urgent to ask ourselves not only how much we speak, but how we speak. Which words do we choose? Which words do we inherit without questioning them? Which remain excluded, distorted, or rendered unpronounceable? And what value can silence have when it is not simply absence, but a condition for listening and thinking?

Sconfinare Festival 2026 invites us to engage with these questions through an interdisciplinary program that intertwines cinema, theater, journalism, literature, music, science, philosophy, poetry, and the visual arts. Fifteen of the most significant voices in contemporary culture will lead the audience on a journey to be explored with curiosity, allowing even silence to become a living part of the Festival.
