Swiss National Holiday
Overview
Intro
Join us for the birthday of Switzerland – right in the heart of the Alps.
On the eve of National Day, the celebrations begin at midday by Lake Leisee:
A varied programme for the whole family kicks off with a children’s concert, children’s entertainment and musical performances – before the street festival takes over on Bahnhofstrasse in the afternoon.
The Zermatt Street Festival heralds 1 August, bringing music, culinary delights and alpine joie de vivre straight to the streets of this car-free mountain destination.
Stroll through the lively hustle and bustle, enjoy regional delicacies and immerse yourself in an atmosphere that makes the Street Festival one of the most wonderful summer events in the Matterhorn village.
And to make the evening last even longer:
The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway is offering a special service on 31 July 2026 from Zermatt (departure 11.20 pm) to Brig – so you can get home relaxed even after the festival.

In Zermatt’s restaurants, culinary delights featuring 1 August menus provide a fitting and atmospheric conclusion to the day.
