Intro

The ERATO ensemble promises an hour filled with emotion, virtuosity, and authentic Baroque sound

The program on October 18 at 5:00 p.m. in the unique town hall of Diessenhofen highlights the diversity and elegance of early music. The program features trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. Bach’s Sonata (BWV 1038), originally composed for obbligato harpsichord and scordato violin, was later arranged by him for violin, transverse flute, and basso continuo. The use of the pardessus for the violin part gives the sonatas a distinctive “viola da gamba” character. Telemann composed the “Nouveaux Quator” in 1738 during his stay in Paris, where it was also printed.

Music by Monsieur de St. Colombe for two viols and the at times sensual, yet also lively variations on the “Follia” by Marin Marais, a student of St. Colombe.
