This is Axalp
The Axalp is located on a plateau above Lake Brienz, in the Bernese Oberland. The place is popular because of the view of the turquoise lake, the various hiking trails and the family-friendly ski area in winter.
Discover Axalp
From the village of Brienz, you can reach Axalp in around 35 minutes by car or PostBus. Once at the top, chalets and alpine huts await you on a plateau above Lake Brienz. The chairlift takes you comfortably to Windegg and other hiking trails. The interactive AXI trail with its adventure stations is also suitable for families.
Schnitzlerweg to Hinterburgseeli
The Schnitzlerweg is Axalp's trademark. Discover over 80 hand-carved wooden figures along the family-friendly path to the Hinterburgseeli. The small mountain lake is located in a nature reserve and shimmers in strong green. On the way you keep looking at the turquoise Lake Brienz deep in the valley.
Ski area for the whole family
In winter, you will discover the Axalp as a small, family-friendly ski area away from the hustle and bustle. A chairlift and three ski lifts open up around 15 kilometres of slopes for different levels of difficulty. In the children's paradise Axiland, the little ones practice skiing. For tobogganing fans, a toboggan run leads from Windegg into the valley.
Around Axalp
From Lake Brienz you will visit Iseltwald by boat. Or you can drive to Giessbach See, from where the oldest funicular in Switzerland takes you directly to the Giessbach Falls. In the valley, you will visit the Ballenberg open-air museum with historic buildings from all over Switzerland. With the Brienz Rothorn Bahn, a historic steam railway, you can reach the Brienzer Rothorn.
