Alimentarium – Food Museum
Overview
Intro
On the shores of Lake Geneva, in Vevey, the Alimentarium explores the question of what good food means today. You walk through a vegetable garden with 300 plants, cook in the open kitchen and go in search of traces of where our food comes from.
The Alimentarium at a glance
At the Alimentarium in Vevey on Lake Geneva, everything revolves around food. The freely accessible vegetable garden is an open-air exhibition showing over 300 edible plants, from vegetables and grains to tubers, herbs and flowers. In the kitchen there are cooking workshops and tastings. In the junior area, a children's kitchen and 25 games await.
What to experience
Visit the permanent exhibition (1-2 hours)
In the permanent exhibition "Systema Alimentarium" you will explore the question of what good food is today. Video installations, photo reports, works of art and around 500 collection objects guide you through the global food system and show how it shapes health and the environment.
- Good to know: Visit Alimentarium and Chaplin's World on the same day with the combo ticket.
Get to know 300 edible plants in the vegetable garden
Depending on the season, a different selection of over 300 edible plants grows in the vegetable garden. You will walk among native, exotic and rare species and find vegetables, grains, tubers, herbs and honey blossoms that play an important role in the diet. What grows here is processed in the cooking workshops."
Cooking in the open kitchen (1 hour)
In the open kitchen, there is a cooking workshop for everyone. In the "Open Kitchen" workshop, you will prepare seasonal ingredients that come from the vegetable garden whenever possible and can taste the result of your work at the end. The offer is aimed at adults and children from 6 years of age.
- Good to know: The workshop will be held in French only.
- Tip: From 3.30 p.m. the kitchen is open to everyone. Opportunity to exchange ideas.
