Intro

The municipality of Troistorrents is the gateway to the Dents du Midi region and extends over several hamlets and two villages.

Description

One of the magnificent sights the village has to offer, the church of Sainte Marie-Madeleine, perches high above the village at the entrance to the Illiez Valley. The mills beneath the bridge over the Gorges de la Tine are also worth seeing. These date back to 1401 and give the place an extraordinary, natural ambience. A few metres further on is a chalet dating back to 1846, which now houses an impressive art gallery with numerous exhibitions as well as antique furniture and artefacts. The Four banal de Propéraz, an oven house from 1663, is a relic of a time when every village district had its own bread oven. It is still fired up several times a year for the villagers, and of course also for our guests.

Another highlight is the Pont du Diable, or Devil’s Bridge, which can be reached on a walk through the Gorges de la Vièze. Legend has it that this bridge collapsed numerous times, whereupon the devil proposed to the leader of the municipality that he would build a more stable bridge. As his reward, he demanded the soul of the first passer-by who should happen to set foot on the new bridge.
