Frau Gerolds Garten

Nowhere in Switzerland has a more urban feel than in the former industrial quarter around Escher-Wyss-Platz: Zurich West experiments with trends, dares to try new things and sets a strong impetus. Frau Gerolds Garten is one of the epicentres: Created as a temporary space, it combines a city garden, fresh cuisine, small shops, art, and colourful events such as flea markets.

Schanzengraben

The idyllic Schanzengraben promenade is an insider tip for those seeking peace and quiet and connects the main train station with Lake Zurich. The waterfront walkway leads over boardwalks and sandstone slabs and provides benches under exotic trees where you can rest and relax. Here you will also find the men’s pool “Flussbad am Schanzengraben”, which becomes Bar Rimini in the evening. In addition, the Schanzengraben is also perfect for stand-up paddle boarding in the middle of the city of Zurich.

Zürichhorn and the Chinese Garden

In the green parks around the lower basin of the lake, there’s always something going on in the summer months. Inline skaters, water sports enthusiasts, jewellery sellers and street artists all gather here to create a colourful scene. Anyone looking for peace and quiet will be able to escape the hustle and bustle on the Zürichhorn at the end of the lakeside promenade, in the wonderful Chinese Garden.

Flussbad Unterer Letten riverside baths

Flussbad Unterer Letten is the oldest spot for river bathing in the city. It has a kiosk, playground, cloakrooms and swimming channels. The outdoor pool was built in 1909 by the architects Fissler and Friedrich and is almost entirely preserved in its original condition. It was later extended to include a non-swimmer’s pool and a paddling pool by Elsa and Ernst Burkhardt and was classified as a listed building in 1986. Cultural events are also regularly held here in the evenings.

Bürkliplatz weekly market

The weekly market on Bürkliplatz, which locals affectionately call “Bürklimäärt”, is without a doubt one of Zurich’s favourite markets. Located at the end of Bahnhofstrasse, it offers a rich selection of fresh herbs, seasonal and regional vegetables, and delicious specialities from local farms. Thanks to its idyllic location right by Lake Zurich and surrounded by majestic chestnut trees, the market is a picturesque destination that can be perfectly combined with a stroll.

Zurich’s lido lounge

The Barfussbar (“barefoot bar”) in Zurich is one of the city’s most popular “Badi Bars”. Here, guests can relax in a secluded river bar with a magnificent view of the old town, while their shoes stay outside. The bar is located in an original art nouveau pool and is only open to women during the day, but to everyone in the evening. On Sundays, there is even barefoot dancing in the bar!

Street Parade

The Street Parade is the biggest techno party in the world and usually takes place on the second Saturday of August. Besides techno and trance, house, drum’n’bass and dubstep are also included in the line-up. The parade attracts hundreds of thousands of electro and techno fans to Zurich’s lake basin and is accompanied by numerous after-parties. The Street Parade is the undisputed highlight of Zurich’s event calendar and, since its beginnings in the 90s, has developed from an underground party into one of the most important events of Zurich’s summer.

The Zurich Card gives city explorers 24 or 72 hours of unlimited travel on all means of public transport, including trams, buses, trains, boats and cable cars in the city of Zurich and the surrounding area.
