KLODIN ERB
Overview
Intro
A LEMON IN THE SKIN
Like a seismograph that detects the issues facing our society, Klodin Erb explores the boundaries of painting through a style that is at times expressive or minimalist, pop or surrealist. Through series of paintings, monumental installations, hypnotic soundtracks, videos, and collages, she blends artistic references with motifs drawn from popular culture. In the eclectic world thus forged, opposites coexist to give rise to joyful hybrids: we encounter famous or familiar figures (wolves, lemons, ghosts, humans), undergoing processes of metamorphosis that blur the boundaries between self and other. For this solo exhibition, Klodin Erb takes over La Grange with a body of work that explores the interdependencies among living beings. With humor and commitment, she explores the power dynamics between different forms of life. Setting aside the usual categories that rank species hierarchically, she invites us to reconsider our ways of being alive: what animates us, connects us, and transforms us? At the heart of an immersive, sensory space-time, a dialogue emerges with this “other” who expresses itself in an unknown language, yet one that may lie deep within us. Guest Curator: Céline Eidenbenz Opening reception on Saturday, October 10, at 6:00 p.m., with the artist in attendance.
