Description

The Monte Rosa stands for charming 4-star luxury in the heart of Zermatt - a place full of history and charisma. Two eras have made Zermatt's first hotel what it is today. The original walls date back to 1839, when the house was a popular accommodation for the early alpinists and became the cradle of the golden age of alpinism. On 13 July 1865, regular Edward Whymper set off from here on the first ascent of the Matterhorn, which made Monte Rosa famous worldwide. Today, the hotel combines the spirit of the pioneering era with the splendour of the Belle Époque and an atmosphere of cultivated conviviality.Spacious or cosy, with or without a balcony, with a view of the Matterhorn or over the village of Zermatt - each of the 41 rooms in six categories offers individual charm. Whether romantic or modern, each room is uniquely designed and lovingly details ensure an unforgettable stay.
In the middle of the village of Zermatt lies the Whymper Stube, a rustic restaurant named after the famous first climber. Here you can expect a cozy atmosphere with warm wood tones, check patterns and historical pictures. The kitchen celebrates authentic Swiss classics such as cheese fondue, raclette and rösti, accompanied by a selection of regional wines and spirits.
Edward's Bar - Café invites you to immerse yourself in the beginnings of alpine tourism. Here, sophisticated cocktails, alpine tapas and delicious snacks await you in a cozy setting with warm colors, stone walls and natural wood - a perfect place to relax and enjoy.
1818 Eat & Drink revolves around the Josper charcoal grill. Products from the region and beyond, creative preparations and a carefully selected wine list offer a unique taste experience - all in an atmosphere that is unique even for Zermatt.
