All hikes: With panoramic view

The Nidwaldner Höhenweg offers varied hiking on mountain trails with grandiose views. Two monastery villages invite you to visit. The many mountain cableway connections make it possible to split the five-day hike.

Shortly after setting out, the first highlights appear in the shape of Arlesheim Cathedral and the Ermitage, the most significant English-style landscape park in Switzerland. The trail continues to Seewen through the unrivalled landscape of the Gampen Plateau and its tower vantage point.

There are many valley walks, but Diemtigtal from Oey to Schwenden is unique and deserves the highest award. The path follows the Filderich and Chirel valley streams and takes you through forests and meadows.

An outing to the magnificent Genevan countryside through the vineyards between the Arve river and the lake. From Hermance, you pass through the villages of Anières, Corsier, Gy, Jussy and Lullier to reach Choulex.

The Walser people carried salt and flour from Juf over the Stallerberg. Rock in plenty at the Flüeseen lakes, majestic the Piz Platta, Alpine the descent into Val Faller. Tga and Alp Flix: former Walser settlements – today oases for flora and fauna in the middle of Parc Ela.

Enjoyable ascent on unsurfaced and surfaced paths to Châlet du Régiment. The landscape is dominated by the jagged Gastlosen chain; colourful flower meadows and lovely views back to the Euschelspass and to the surrounding mountains are a constant surprise.

The popular hike from Schönbüel-Brünigpass stimulates all the senses and is not short of sensational views. Spectacular ring-side seat: the Gibel, with views down to Brienzersee and Thunersee. Ridge hike to Wilerhorn, rewarding summit ascent.

An age-old trail leads to the quaint village of Albinen in a superb location above the Dalaschlucht (gorge); along the way, the ancient hamlets of Brentschen, Engersch and Jeizinen also sit on the sunny slope, linked by peaceful hiking paths.

A total of 72 waterfalls gush down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley from the vertical cliff faces, some of which are as high as 400m. The roar and rush of these unique natural spectacles accompanies hikers on this picturesque trail from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg.

Walser people settled early in Partnun, below the Schijenflue, as they did in Gafiatal. Today an alp area with typical timber houses in the middle of the Rätikonmassiv - an outdoor eldorado. Schweizertor: Alpine crossing to Brand (A), where the first Walsers settled in the 14th century.

Schmelzra and its old furnace ruins follow after S-charl. Then onwards to the turn into the Val Mingèr valley, through the mixed woods along Clemgia, descent through the Clemgia ravine, and on to the Inn district of the resort Scuol. (Previously know as Bad Scuol or Schuls).

Surprises: the Tour de Moron built by apprentices as well as renewable energies on Mont Soleil and Mont Crosin; picturesque little towns nesting between scenic heights. And don’t forget to sample spicy Tête de Moine cheese.

Nowhere else in Switzerland is the change from the hilly landscape of Central Switzerland to the craggy Alps so abrupt or impressive as in the Alpstein area. Mighty rock formations up to more than 2,500 metres high tower up as if from nowhere.

Panorama hike against the backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. First section over the Güggisgrat with the spectacular views down to the Justis valley. Then through heather and spruce forests towards Chüematte. Final part over alpine meadows to Waldegg.

From the pass with its old refuge, the Hospiz, and Totenkappelle (Cemetery Chapel), the section leads to the world-famous Tremolastrasse, which climbs an impressive 340 metres around 24 bends. Once you reach Airolo, the obere Leventina valley awaits with further discoveries.

At times typically alpine, at times almost Mediterranean: an unexpectedly diverse landscape awaits visitors to the Calanca Valley. While hiking through chestnut forests and hamlets, one can learn about the settlement history of the region, which has managed to preserve its originality.

This hike presents the more mountainous side of the canton of Thurgau. After a steep climb, the trail crosses the narrow Tannegg arête to arrive at the Tannegg ruin, a recommended viewpoint. The trail makes up part of the 200km long Thurgau circular hiking trail.

A quarter of the Pinot noir produced in the Valais comes from the Leuk, Varen and Salgesch region. Pure paradise for nature lovers with always something new and surprising to discover. Fantastic views from the hill-top church at Varen.

The historical path from Bendern to Schellenberg takes you past the cradle of Liechtenstein and climbs easily up to the prehistoric settlement of the Lutzegütle and Malanser.

Nendaz is a paradise for suone (irrigation channel) hikers, with eight suonen (or bisse) it is the largest network still in use. Enjoyable tour from Planchouet to Veysonnaz, through flowery meadows alongside the open channel of the restored Grand Bisse de Vex.

The Jakobskirche (St. James’ Church) in Märstetten was first mentioned in 1155 and has a depiction of Judgement Day. Wonderful views above Bollsteg to the Affeltrangen and Tobel areas with Hörnli in the distance.

From Wegenstetten through fields with wonderful old cherry trees and onwards past the remains of Alt-Tierstein castle to Frick.

This stage marks the end of the climb to the Grossen Sankt Bernhard-Pass. From Martigny a sometimes steep path leads over the narrow Les Trappistes pass to the medieval village of Sembrancher. From here the route follows the Napoleon-Weg.

The Nationalpark- Panoramaweg lets you venture through a variety of fascinating landscapes, while at the same time providing an insight into three differing cultural regions. Actually a hike through an international park.

Splendid hike to Lutertannen and over the Risipass vantage point to Stein in Toggenburg. Meadows and Alpine pastures, near-to-nature low-moor marshes and coniferous forests alternate in colourful sequence.

A hike downstream in the heart of La Gruyère, which through openings in the undergrowth offers unrivalled views of the Alpine foothills and creeks filled with turquoise water! It's a real pleasure to discover the flora and fauna and heritage of La Gruyère.

This hike is representative of the hiking paradise in the Fischingen region. A steady ascent in shady woods leads upwards to splendid, far-reaching views. Conglomerate rock gorges in the Alpine foothills alternate with gentle hilly landscapes.

From Malbun on the mountain trail dedicated to Liechtenstein’s Princess Gina, over the Augstenberg with its superb views to the Pfälzer hut, then northwards, at the foot of the Rappastein, direction Sücka.

The around five-hour round tour from Iffigenalp - Iffigsee - Iffighore - Hohberg - back to Iffigenalp leads through the attractive nature reserve of Gelten-Iffigen. In July and August, a richly varied and rare world of flora is found on the rugged and romantic Hohberg.

Easy yet almost high-alpine hike along the historical Splügen Pass route to the high plateau of the Suretta lakes.

On the way to the Belchenflue, various buildings and crests serve as reminders of when Switzerland was well fortified in the two world wars. After the hamlet of Bärenwil shortly ahead, head over the Tiefmatt to Roggen. Down below, Balsthal greets you with Neu-Falkenstein Castle and the paper factory.
