Intro

Located by Lake Geneva in Swiss Vevey, Alimentarium is the first museum in the world devoted exclusively to nutrition. A wonderful and educational vegetable garden also belongs to the museum.

Since more than 30 years, visitors have been able to peek inside pots to view the contents and culinary habits of people from near and far. All facets of the human diet of yesterday and today make for interesting discoveries as you become more familiar with the eating habits, science and cultural and artistic aspects of food and nourishment in an interactive and spoken display. Exhibitions with different subjects, numerous mediation activities, gastronomic tastings, cooking workshops and guided tours provide visitors an opportunity to quench their thirst and fulfill their appetite for knowledge.

A listed building, constructed in sandstone and stunning neo-classical style, that was the once the management headquarters of the Nestlé & Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company in the year 1921. The emblem of the Alimentarium, an eight meter-high fork seen from afar as it protrudes from Lake Geneva opposite the museum, is one you’ll long remember - and the unmistakable sign is registered in the Guinness Book of Records.

Situated in Vevey, Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva, the Alimentarium is the first museum in the world to be entirely devoted to food and nutrition. In order to fulfil its mission, the museum favours an educational, multidisciplinary and interactive approach. A Nestlé Foundation, the Alimentarium observes eating habits of both today and of the past and adopts a global and independent view, encouraging interaction and dialogue with visitors. Exhibitions on multiple themes, numerous animated activities, scientific demonstrations, gourmet tasting sessions, cookery workshops and guided tours give visitors ample opportunity to quench their thirst for knowledge and new experiences. As an inherent part of the Swiss cultural scene, the museum has already welcomed over 1.5 million visitors since it first opened in 1985.
